Hidden Valley Conservation Trust
The Hidden Valley Conservation Trust (HVCT) was formed in 2021 by a group of people passionate about restoring and protecting the native flora and fauna of Banks Peninsula. We are a registered New Zealand charity.
Purau Reserve
Our first project has been to purchase 72ha of land, the Hidden Valley, on the western slopes of Mt Evans above Purau Bay.
The dramatic bluffs and gullies that are a distinctive feature of this land harbour many important native species. The Trust aims to protect these in perpetuity and allow the land to re-generate.

Can I visit?
Currently the reserve does not have public access. However, we are keen to share this special place with others. We have held public open days and this June (2024) we are running Community Planting Days as an opportunity for people to visit and get involved.
In addition to these public events, we also host visits from organised groups such as The Christchurch Botanical Society, The Banks Pennisula Walking Festival and various Tramping Clubs.
We are creating walking tracks and hope to eventually link Hidden Valley with neighbouring reserves.
